Confused about what fluid.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Please could someone confirm what power steering fluid I should top up with. I have a green PAS cap with red fluid inside.

Must I top up with obviously G002 00 in red or does it not matter as there is also the green one.

As you can see I went through a bit of trouble getting to it.

Thanks.

it should be vag fluid, which is normally green - around £8 a litre from dealer.

if it is red i'd be tempted to drain and refill with green just to be safe

This is the fluid the car has been on, and it's over 10 years old and I think it's never been topped up hence the rusted bolts/nuts.

So would it matter topping up with the green VAG fluid as it is likely the older version fluid came in red.

I would be tempted not to mix fluids.

It is likely that the red stuff is the original stuff and it has since been revised for the green version. You should drain and refill with the green stuff really.

Okay I will have to drain it. Please could you tell me if it's a straight forward job and how to.

I have spent the last 3 weeks doing up this car.

Many thanks.

My car was built in 2000......it has always had genuine VAG PAS fluid.......green in colour.........

Just rang my local Skoda dealerships and they are asking for £300 to replace the fluid. I think it's time to roll my sleeves again.

From which end (1 or 2) do I disconnect the pipe to drain the fluid? Please see attached picture.

Also is it better to drain from the same pipe where it extends under the front wheel arch.
