From paying a deposit till getting my car 6 MONTHS ! Your joking?

Featured Replies

Okay so much for me being a "Soon to be owner" of a ŠKODA Superb Diesel Estate 2.0 TDI CR 170 4x4 Elegance. With the following extras:-

* Park Assist

* Space Saver Spare Wheel

* Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

* Floor Mats

* Heated Windscreen

* Pearl- Black Magic

* Ivory interior />I enquired with the garage as to the lack of communication and also wondering when would be the build date. got no responce, So I wrote an email to Skoda UK and got a reply confirming that all the extras have been added to my build, then they this replied with this

"I have checked the estimated lead time for your vehicle also, which is currently in week 2 (week commencing 7th January 2013).

This date has not yet been confirmed with our factory therefore this build week may vary."

Bloody Hell if I had been informed of this sort of delay I would have bought second hand... I was buying this car so my wife could use it through the winter months and when the snow was causing other drivers issues. So let this be a warning to all make sure you get a date from the salesman before you commit to buying any new car when the expected date is..Not a happy bunny !!!!

In fairness, this lead time is not unusual for Superbs. I ordered in August 2010 and car was delivered on 14th January 2011.

Apparently, adding a panoramic roof would add another three months to the wait, such is the demand.

The hazards of buying a much sought-after car?

its always better to buy nearly new you save thousands of pounds and as long as you don't mind waiting a Little while, not 6 months you can still find exactly what you want.i did just that and saved 8k.and the car still had two years warranty left

bill

When I ordered my Octavia in June 2011, was originally told an 8 month wait, took delivery January 2012, 7 months.

The delay is due to the 4x4 running gear as i have the same wait due to pick it up on Dec

My almost identical spec car (Grey not black, plus a couple of other extras) took 3 months. Ordered start of March, delivered 4 weeks ago. So it's not just the 4x4, but dealer quotas too.

I got mine in 7 weeks but it was a Greenline.

I bought a brand new stock car from a dealer. Downside was that I had no chance to order extras that I wanted, such as heated windscreen and auto dim mirror. I had no choice of spec or engine either, and only a choice of 3 colours. Luckily they were all TDI 170 manual estates (which I wanted) but SE's when I would have preferred Elegance. They did have my preferred colour which was a bonus though.

Upside was that I got the car immediately and saved a huge amount off the price because the car had been registered in March and sat in a compound for 4 months. And when I say huge amount, I do mean huge.

Mine took 11.5 months to arrive but it's here now and worth waiting for. I have the panoramic roof and I'm not aware that was particularly holding things up. It's a 170 DSG and that combo was the main problem along with a ****up in the ordering that delayed it a few weeks and Skoda's dealer quota system. My supplier told me that global demand for the 170PS engine was the main problem.

As Vagtastic said, there's only one problem with buying from stock or nearly new...you will never get exactly the car that you really wanted to order. I wanted a dozen options on mine and was not prepared to compromise on colour or anything. I'd seen the UK stock list a couple of times and there was nothing that came close, so I waited and I don't regret it at all now although it was a bloody frustrating wait especially as the build date went back and forth.

There seem to be lots of reasons given for delays. 4x4. 170 engine and others.

To be honest I think quota is the biggest issue these days, as my 4x4 170 took 3 months. Worth the wait, though!

The long build time seems fairly consistent (my 170 4x4 Yeti was a few days short of six months from order to collection) but a very poor show if the dealer didn't tell you that up front :( I was quoted five to six months so knew I was in for a long wait.

It's not uncommon with most manufacturers - it only takes one little supplier to have capacity problems and it can slow everything down.

When the manufacturers go out and do a deal with components suppliers they estimate how many parts they will need a year and the supplier gears up their factory accordingly. Of course with optional parts (such as sunroofs, xenon lamps etc) they might sell loads more than they thought and the supplier can't keep up.

I think VW had the same problem with panoramic roofs on the Scirocco if I recall correctly...

Situation Update...

Just sent an email to the Salesman protesting to the 6 month wait for my car and asking him why he didn't tell me about the normal delay in Skoda build times and saying that since I had to wait 6 months, also I'd like some extra options fitted Mud flaps front and back, Park Assist (since IMO it's better value for money as you get front sensors fitted and the auto parking gadget for a slight extra, than just having front sensors fitted), KESSY- keyless entry and start, and the MDI- Mobile device interface for Iphone conectivity.

He replied saying he was just back from his holidays, and the latest from the Skoda conmputer build dates are still on track for week 38, which is the end of October and delivery some time in November... So seems like there seems to be a breakdown in communication between Skoda Customer services and the factory thats building them...

So I'm very pleased, only one thing......... By the time the car is due to be collected, I'll be back here in the middle east working again and won't get to drive the new car till January...needless to say my good lady wife will be using it all the time ...Oh well such is life ... lol

Kind of good news then in that the car is coming early, no so as you won't be here to drive it.

I wonder if the salesman would have told you if you hadn't of chased them up?

Well he did say that the Skoda Factory was closed for the first two weeks in August so there was no way the Customer Services could have found out any information from the Factory due to the computer system being closed down as well, anyway got to look on the bright side and that is that it's going to be in the UK during November.

Now that has caused me a small problem...

Due to me not expecting the car to be ready till January/February, I've just instructed my builder to build me a garage to house the car, and monoblock the drive,( Not a cheap one either) so what I mean to say is that I've put the money towards the garage instead of paying for the car... Oh well just a mere technicality, just need to tighten the belt for a few months… :think: :rofl:

It could be sooner than you think, mine was given a build week 33 and actually arrived at the dealers that week, so it must have been build before the factory closed down. Picking my car up on 1st September with new 62 plate-can't wait.

RoDM, the lengthy wait for a factory order (as in to the exact spec you want, rather than taking a car from stock that was ordered months ago) is well documented on Briskoda, 6 month waiting lists has been pretty common for the last two years! and each time the 'delay' just happens to be because of something in the spec you ordered :think:

I was told 12 - 14 weeks for my car, I finally collected it 26 weeks after placing the order, build dates also move around frequently, so don't get your hopes up too soon, wait for the confirmation call that it is built (so delivery will be about 2 - 3 weeks later) for that.

It's a pretty poor show from the dealer though not to tell you before you placed the order!
