As promised here are a couple of pics of the Jetex exhaust I had fitted:

...and another:

 that looks very stealthy! One that I could possibly implement without my better half even noticing :D

Not that I would do such a thing ofcourse... ;)

Q.

very tidy! hows it sound?

Oh how to describe.............. purposeful and bassy but not loud. Obviously louder than standard but not even close to the H&S!

I like it.....still dropping the windows down so I can listen to it.:D

Q: definately stealthy....SWMBO hasn't even noticed!;)

Am very pleased with the fit; hangs nicely in the bumper cut out whilst the tail pipe does protrude too much.

Do you feel any benefit from it Adrian? I guess hard to tell as you had it fitted on the same day as the remap IIRC ....

Yeah it's difficult to tell due to the remap but it definately sounds different.

I'd definately recommend it if you want something different but don't want to shout about. It is louder and more purposeful sounding though.......acouple of guys in a standard RS at my local Halfords turned round when I started it up...could have been the looking at the tail pipe though.

Another good point is fit and finish....it went on first time and didn't need any adjustment......not a lump hammer in sight:D . Wonder if the Milltek boys can say the same?;)

I'm not interested in noise. Honest, I'm not. All I want is performance. I would not spend that kind of money to get a different exhaust noise. If better flow leads to more noise then so be it, within reason.

I would still recommend full Milltek for its lifetime warranty and quality. Fitting isnt a problem if you know how to do it just like any other task. Definite performance bonus feels much freeier revving.

Hmmm, think I might have to speak to Jabba nicely and see if they can do mine at the same time....

Although not sure -- should it be Induction kit or exhaust first - which will give most benefit when it comes to the Jabba ???

Dave,

Its got to be the exhaust first. A sports CAT or DeCatted big bore system will give you much better low speed pick up and will rev-out better as the turbo responds faster. Also stronger torque across the rev range. Check out TaviaR's R/R curves.

If you look at the Prodrive kit for the WRX STi the only things they change are the ECU map and exhaust for 35 bhp.

Its still unclear to me what the remap will give with the exhaust changed at STD day conditions as the high ambient temps have produced lower figures of late.

Dave - Milltek quote figures around 30 bhp for their full system I believe. An induction kit is worth less than 10 at best. I'd vote for exhaust.

Nick,

Wish I could believe that, more like 30 lbf ft torque according to Tavia's R/R results at Power Eng. Tempted by that CAI and Des did say it felt quicker on Dave's car and that car already has a Decat so it has to be a combination of free breathing at both ends that helps. Then there's the inlet gasket...

Chris

What's a CAI?

Haven't seen the RR results you refer to. Was only going on a rough guestimate of Miltek claims, and others' previous posts. Admit I don't have either, but I would go exhaust first.

Cold Air Induction - basically an induction kit on the end of a pipe to keep it away from the engine bays heat :) Mine sits just below the headlight.

Hmmm I don't see much difference myself between filter on the end, or filter at the top. Either way there's a pipe going from one end to the other and a temperature gradient from bottom to top. Only difference I see is the type of filter.

Ever changed a headlight bulb on a warm engine? - they get quite warm too .....

Not carping - just thinking what the best solution would be. I like Chrille/Ffelan's ideas of bringing air right up from the front dam. Not sure how well that works with an external filter though - must be a lot of pressure leaking away and some warm air leaking back in from the engine bay.

From the remap figures with the full Milltek, I don't think an extra 30bhp is anywhere near the mark. An increase in torque.....yes......but I don't know how much.

Talking with Mike yeaterday about fitting the Milltek dp and sport cat and he said that they make a difference but not that much of one. The real restriction is the turbo and (I think) the exhaust manifold.

Jabba's big turbo kit running at only 0.9bar gives 280bhp!

Getting the Milltek would cost around

the manifold is the issue that keeps being thrown at me... that and cylinder head... rumor has it 300+ on std turbo is poss if u fix other "weaknesses"
