Problems following remap

Featured Replies

The day after my remap I started to experience problems on heavy acceleration. As I accelerate, I lose power and the car stutters as though there is a problem with the fuel getting through, at the same time the engine management light starts flashing. When I back off, the car runs without problem and the light goes out. Has anybody any ideas as to what may be the problem? A loose battery connection was suggested but I have checked and this does not seem to be the case. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Cheers

I would contact whoever did your remap and see what they say. Have you got anyone near you that could put in on Vagcom? It should show up any faults. May be the 17705 problem. Does it have the OEM diverter valve on still?

Speak to Jabbasport about your problem.

Check the following:

Spark plugs, replace, regap to 0.65 or clean.

Coil on the way out.

I had the same problem at high revs.

It was Jabbasport but they don't think its connected to the remap, although it seems a bit of a coincidence if it it isn't. Is booked in to check for fault codes on Friday but wondered if anyone had any ideas beforehand. Is this the symptom of coils on the way out then?

Do you know if your car has had the original coil packs (most likely the H version) changed for the J or L versions? If the H version are fitted, they should have been replaced free of charge when the car was serviced post September 2003. See the thread below:

what fuel are you running?? i got pretty much the same problems whilst driving home from jabba and it was because i was running only 95 ron fuel with the controller on full. runs perfectly on 97ron and above though

I know that it had the coils changed before I bought it but I don't know which versions were used, I seem to remember the salesman saying that they had come off another car they had rather than new. If this is the case should they replace them with new ones if this turns out to be the problem?

With regard to fuel it is always run on Super, although had to put in some Optimax rather than Sainsbury's recently but would be surprised if that caused a problem.

The later coil packs are less troublesome than the H version, and from what you say it seems very unlikely the original ones are still be fitted.
