PD140 Scout tuning options

Featured Replies

Anyone tuned a Scout PD140 yet.

Just considering a few tweeks

Initial thoughts

Bigger injectors, Hybrid or bigger Turbo, Clutch Upgrade, Bigger Intercooler, Front Brake upgrade & rear Pad Upgrade, (DPF already fallen off somewhere )

I will probably use Allard for the Intercooler, top quality work always by Lloyd & his company

Jabba for the rest as they built my Cannonball 4x4 & have done excellent work on other cars for me

Any thoughts / pointers considered

Depends what you want to get it upto. Standard intercooler is pretty well specced, but depends what you're aiming for :)

Other bits should be the same as tweaking a normal PD140.

Look into an uprated Haldex controller as well perhaps?

Really just want a bit moor oomph & stopping power, reosnably happy with the std suspension having fitted some stickier tyres & I want to maintain the ride height anyway.

Ive done a couple of very spirited drives in the mountains of europe during the summer & even at fairly low altitudes found the car quickly running out of puff as it is when it gets very hot, hence looking at the intercooler.

Does anyone know if an intercooler off a bigger VAG car will fit, that would save a few bob

I ran a stock Haldex controller on the Mk 1 4x4, perfectly driveable with 350 + bhp. Im only really looking for 230-250 bhp & want to maintain decent economy when driven sensibly, this is meant to be the daily drive so not looking at anything too radical

S3 intercooler springs to mind then Stuart, thinking of what the vRS petrol boys move to. Not heard of TDIs running them though. I'd probably check on some of the Mk5 boards, as there will have been more tuning projects based on the PD140 on there I'd have thought, running into the numbers you're looking at.

In terms of Haldex, I'm just wondering how well the std system will cope with 80-100bhp move, that's all.

As I said it was fine on the Mk 1, the weak link on that was the gearbox which despite fitting VRs internals failed in style one day
