vrs estate, smaller wheels?

Featured Replies

I've recently purchased a vrs estate (and love it) but just wondered if anyone knew the reason why it only comes with the 16" version of the spiders and not the 17" like the hatchback?

I assume its to do with the extra load capability of the estate, but there are plenty of estates nowadays with 17 and 18" alloys, and i wouldn't have thought the estate could carry that much more weight than the hatch anyway?

If anyone knows i'd be intrigued to find out as i now have another thing to add to the 'to do' list!

The estates are less ridged than the hatches, skoda felt that the ride quality would suffer on 17s so only offered 16s. Quite a few members have fitted 17s and 18s with no ill effects

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

An extra inch makes a big difference. Certainly looks better...

(Please don't take that out of context)

I'll be going for some kind of 17s when I can... if you want to do it, I'd recommend fitting a decent set of roll bars and the S3 strut braces, top and bottom. Helps keep things together a little more.

mines sat in 18" with stretch and i only really notice a little flex when i got weight in the back. Other than that its a Go cart.

no real benefits to 17's apart from looks, handling is pretty unaffected

tyre costs is a killer though £100 for 17s, about £60 and a better choice for 16s

at the very least I'd keep em and fit winters rather than sell them off

they certainly look better with 17's/18's on, the 16" spiders look a bit lost on the estate!

however, mine was fitted with 4 brand new yoko's before i bought it so these will be staying on for a while yet, and when the time comes, they will be fitted with winter tyres and kept.

Oh, and gee, spent the last few nights reading your project thread.....................me likey!!!
