Why no DSG for the 170 4x4 ?

As per the title, why have Skoda decided not to offer this as an option? I would have thought it would be a good seller even if it would be the most expensive car in the range?

It would be top of my list for towing, towing in muddy fields/wet grass, snow, although difficult to find used given that owners would probably hang onto it.

I think because of the 4x4 system and not being able to mound that particular engine and the DSG the other way round?

I assume it will be for some technical reason as this otherwise yes it would probably be a very popular option. Unless they did it not to take sales of the V6 4x4 away?!

Hi,

The Passat Alltrack offers the 170 enginge with DSG, so the cynic in me says that this is more of a case of keeping some distance between Skoda and the 'premium' brands.

I absolutely agree that this would be a great seller.

Shouldn't be a problem for the 6 speed. Is this a Skoda.cz thing or a Skoda UK thing. I can't be 100% but I'm sure I've seen a 170 DSG 4x4 option available in another country's brochure???

Buy the 140HP DSG 4x4 version and chip it to 170. It will even go upp to 190 at BSR if its the new 140 CR.

Do that, and bye bye warranty ? :bandit:

And, really, unless you tow something heavy all the time with your car, 140 is more than enough. Anything more is BU****** :giggle:

It would have been nice to have that bit extra on tap for when I am towing the caravan (1500kg) - other than that then the 140 will be plenty for me

I tow 1500kgs with a 170 DSG estate. Just had 3 weeks in Kent and was loaded to the gunnels. 4 in the car, full boot, awning etc (kitchen sink) in the van (usually bikes on the roof but not this time). It was effortless. Coming from a 120PS manual Vectra it felt like the van wasn't there. Believe me, the 140 DSG 4x4 will be brilliant at towing and according to the brochure Skoda rate it as being able to pull 2000kg instead of 1800kg for the 170 DSG 2-wheel drive variant. You'd also have an extra 73kg on your kerbweight over my car. I assume you want a 4x4 for Yorkshire winters 'cos you certainly wouldn't need it for towing. If it's power you want then ditch the 4-wheel drive and get a 170 DSG.
