Glow plug light Octy VRS

Featured Replies

My glow plug light keeps flashing on very briefly, three times in the past two days, no perceived loss of power. It's puzzling as I have been on long runs when it has come on. What's up??

It has had a new egr valve fitted in the past six months. So I am a bit worried it is going to need another and i'm out of warranty.

Ideas!!

The glowplug light is used to indicate a varying number of different issues / faults.

It can also come on with the EML light and DPF light in different sequences to signal different faults.

The only real way to know is to have your car scanned. Each time the light comes on a fault code is logged.

Your dealer (or a friendly member with VCDS) can plug the car in and read the codes for you.

A common issue on the Octavia is a faulty brake light switch. This somehow results in a flashing glowplug light.

Do your brake lights work? Are they stuck permanently on?

It could also be one of a number of different sensors including the exhaust gas pressure sensor but these usually bring on the EML light too.

The only way you'll know for sure is by having the fault codes read...

Thanks. Brake lights seem OK, i will take it to my local VW specialist, cheaper than a main dealer and get them to check the fault codes.

Mine was coming on about about 30 seconds after starting the engine and flashing for another 30 seconds before going out. Turned out to be a vacuum line not connected properly somewhere. As said it can be any number of things.
