New Shocks Fitted but have a noise

Featured Replies

Just had some new shocks fitted as the old ones were shot & it felt like I was driving a water bed, test drove it & it felt fine & solid on the road but it has a what I can describe as a low thud as if something is loose, I took it back & they had the shock of twice & everything is tight but it's still knocking when driving. The garage are stumped so could it be a faulty shock as there going to our the old 1 back on tomorrow to see if the thud is still there, hopefully someone might have a answer so I can take tell the garage when I take it back tomorow.

Thanks Marc

Is it poss that the stiffer ride has revealed a worn ball joint, that the water bed covered up?

Not sure if this helps but I recently had some new Sachs shocks fitted and I complained to my mechanic about the front end clunking a lot, turns out my top mounts were worn, just had a new pair in along with some rear axel bushes and the ride is finally back to how it used to be, it's made a massive difference...

+1 good point. Or the bearing nut might be loose, my coilovers did this after a couple of days, needed to retighten

Thanks for the replies but it looks like a faulty new shock, the garage re-fitted the old 1 & no knocking so it has to be down to that.

Thanks again.
