EPC Light

Featured Replies

Strange one,

My mate drove me out in his Mk1 octy to pick mine up, drove out fine, turned into where had to go, can only describe it as a cough, splutter, lurch and EPC light came on. drove to end of road. Stopped and she was now ticking over at 1200rpm. Stuck code reader on it, no signal to speedo and think it was dizzy or something. cleared them, light went out, still ticking over at 1200 rpm!?!? he has driven home fine, but tick over at 1200. he has gone in house, come out to start it, wont start!

Any Ideas?

Thanks in Advance.

Dave and my mate Chris.

Maf sensor usually pus epc light on but it usually has engine light aswell,

No speed signal to epc sounds more like a brake module fault though

How/why would the brake module stop it from starting?

Immobilizer codes are stored in brake control module's on certain cars, not sure if vags are same,

No communication with bcm = no go

will have a look at maf tomorrow, can try mine, eliminates that then. Bloody technology......lol.

Ive seen this on a seat arosa after a dying battery and a faulty alternator, when I replaced the alternator I had to re-align the throttle to get tick over back to normal. Check the battery and alternator.

Interesting one, the car started fine this morning, no issues, no high rpm..... :wonder:

You should have it scanned with VCDS and while they are on get them to try a throttle re-alignment.

will do. cheers for everyone's help. Will post results for future references

On a Mk1 there is a separate road speed sensor and this connects to the dash insert. There is a road speed output from the dash insert that goes to the ECU, etc.

Check the reversing lights. It may seem an odd thing to suggest, but they share the same feed/fuse as the reversing switch and road speed sensor on located on the gearbox.
