help! have come to a wall.

Featured Replies

My car went into limp mode monday got it scanned but thought the guy didnt know what he was doing. Bought cable and scanned myself on vcds lite.

Three faults manifold flap open or ground intermittant. Egr open or ground intermittant. And boost control n75 open or ground.

As i had checked to see turbk vein could move and egr could move i got hold of working vacuum box but vcds lite either wont let me clear the faults or they are coming straight back every time.

And now the car wont start?

Any ideas as its doing my head in now.

Thanks

The first attempt of the vacuum box i bought the wrong model (the one without any letters at the end) and it flagged up open or ground on n75.

Could your problem be electrical then? check fuses or relays relating to the fault codes?

Thread from a while ago for my situation:http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/174489-urgent-problem-limp-mode-low-pressure/

There was another thread with fault codes and more detail on other possibilities for a fix, but i cant seem to find that one..

I got one off of a mk4 golf. Its an exact match to mine. As the one that came off mine had no letter on the end. Just wierd how it went under acceleration never thought it could be electrical.

If you list the actual codes, I can help with the probable causes.

the only one thats not intermittent is the 02 sensor. Others are controlled by relays, may be worth changing the relays. I cant help but think MAF is responsible. Have you unplugged the maf to see if it goes again/better? Or it could well be lambda

unplug the cables from flap valve and check, i had this on my octavia 1.9 tdi and it was the cables had worn through and broken

had to extended and raplace a few cm's of each of the 3 or 4 wires

Might sound daft but assuming the flap valve is at the back of the egr i cant see any electrical cables coming from it.

There is an electrical issue with the vacuum box. The EGR and boost solenoids are in there. If they are open circuit or short then wiring is broken. Check the plug on the box, wiring is quite tight. However have you fitted a new box from a Golf? Same part number?

Like to thank everyone who helped by giving you all a big laugh. Sat thinking and went back to basics. And it seems the vacuum box was at fault and inturn took out the engine electronics fuse. So all cleared and running. But has me thinking if it wouldnt start how the hell did it manage to run on limp mode when it first happened.

irrelevant, fixed

Code 19561 inlet manifold air control solenoid - open circuit/short to earth

probable causes:

  • wiring open circuit/short to earth
  • intake manifold air control solenoid

Code 17849 EGR valve/solenoid - open circuit/short to earth

probable causes

  • wiring open circuit-short to earth
  • EGR solenoid

Code 17957 turbocharger wastegate regulating valve - open circuit/short to earth

probable causes

  • wiring open circuit-short to earth
  • wastegate regulating valve

That what the book says. The common theme suggests you have a wiring fault- maybe corrosion in a multi-plug?

Good luck
