Another Towbar Query

Featured Replies

OK, I had to move the trailer tent at the weekend, which was my first opportunity to try out the factory fitted towbar. Overall I'm pleased with it - when it's detached there's no evidence of it at all, and there's a dedicated storage slot for it inside the spare wheel - much tidier than previous dealer fits.

Here's the question though - this is the fourth Skoda I've fitted a towbar to. My first Octavia (1.6GLXi) had a third party towbar, and there was an audible warning when I was towing and switched on the indicators.

My Octavia RS had a dealer fit Skoda detachable job - no audible warning.

My Superb had a dealer fit Skoda detachable job - no audible warning.

The Octy II also has no audible warning.

Now I thought it was required by law that there should be some audible or visual warning when you were towing and switched on the indicators. Any legal experts out there know the answer?

If you have a bulb failure when you have towing electrics connected, the dash indicator flashes double rate.

That is legal and above board. Whether it is the perfect solution is another matter.
