New kid on the block

Featured Replies

Hi, the reason I joined this site is because I'm in the process of buying a new car. I've narrowed my choice down to 2 - and yes you've guessed it one is a skoda. I'm looking at either a toyota celica (2001/2 model) or a new Fabia VRS. I'm almost completely decided on getting the fabia but need re-convincing now and again. I like its 60mpg and pocket rocket status. But the celica looks soooo nice. I'm sure I'll get the best advice here.

Welcome to Briskoda. Best advice - yes! Advice to buy the Celica - unlikely...:D

The Celica T-Sport's got a lot going for it performance-wise, but not so sure about the standard one (140bhp only IIRC) - barely more than the Fabia, and only about half the torque. As for the looks, I think both are a bit of an acquired taste, just in a different way - personally think the Celica looks bobbins without a spoiler for example. The Fabia's definitely more practical and economical (except the boot's a bit smaller, and you'll be lucky ever to see 60mpg!), but no matter what everyone on here thinks, it's still a Skoda in some people's eyes! IMHO, then:

Buy the Skoda if:

You want stealthy, torquey performance;

You ever need to go more than 2-up (but don't carry much in the boot);

You want decent fuel economy.

Buy the Toyota if:

You want to impress members of the opposite sex;

You'll never have anyone other than you and said member of the opposite sex in the car;

You need a relatively large boot;

You want in-your-face, high-revs performance (in the T-Sport anyway);

You're not bothered that the fuel economy, will be a bit worse;

You can get one with a spoiler...
