1.9 Tdi octavia II lumpy cold start and limp home mode

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I have an '05 1.9 Tdi BKD engined octy

On cold starts I have been getting a lumpy start with white smoke

Also when sitting at a steady speed car will go into limp home mode and won't boost

Has had a good service, new glow plugs, new genuine MAP sensor and New MAF but problems persist

I have vagcom and will need to double check the fault codes but was hoping these faults would sound fimilar for someone

Any help would be appreciated

lumpy start with white smoke could be glow plugs need changed.

is limp always when sat at steady speed? or is it when you give it the beans?

Glow plugs are less than 6 months old checked with my multimeter each plug gives 1 ohm of resistance which I read suggests they are ok, might be wrong thou also checked the glow plug 4 branch thing ( can't remember the name of it lol) but all the voltages were equal

It does it when giving beans aswell but usually only in 5th gear, I haven't quite figured out exactly when it happens each time but I think it's mainly at steady speeds or when accelerating then lifting off and going on the power again

its not an expensive part, i would try it as its an easy job too.

Sorry should have said cleaned the EGR and also the turbo on it is less than 10,000 miles old and the problem has been persistent since changing the turbo checked all the vacuum hoses and boost hoses aswell but no sign of any leaks

ECT may be the trick then buddy
