TOW BARS

Featured Replies

l maybe asking for a little to much , but here we go .I would love to have a tow bar fitted to my 2012 Roomster SE , BUT do not want the cut out on the rear bumper bar to be visible . before i go to a skoda dealership and ask the question , just wondering is the silver fittment that is fitted onto the scouts rear bumper available to buy as a seperate item and will it fit the Roomster SE rear bumper ( the reason for asking is that the silver fittment has a removal section and can be removed when the tow bar is been used and replaced when the tow bar is not in use

In short, flange towbar is your best bet, and NOT a Westfalia SIARR flange towbar due to shoddy workmanship. Best to go with PCT SK4371, I have PCT towbars on both cars and the workmanship quality is excellent. There is a cutout, but it is small and at bottom bumper edge so no trouble removing bumper cover and really not visible.

I hope this helps

Hi DieselV6

Thanks for your reply , however what i am after is the type of arrangement what is found on the rear bumper of the scout

My reply was perfectly on topic, whatever you do with removable towbar (covering/uncovering the access hole) will over time stress your bumper cover to the point of cracking paint. The only way to avoid it is a fixed towbar, and flange towbars consistently have smallest bumper cover cutout. Yes they are permanent, but still look better than flaking paint on bumper.

Scout's bumpers are completely different to SE, they used to be just normal bumpers+black stick on cover but not anymore.

Before anyone posts any further comment to my posting please read in its entirety , you will note i was asking !! if anyone has experienced the purchasing and retro fitting of the silver fitment that is standard on the Scout where the tow bar is located ( this fitment has 4 screws to remove a dedicated panel to allow access the tow bar which can be refitted when the tow bar is not in use , this panel covers the normal cutout .

I do not want the bog standard cutout because however you try to camouflage the cut out you will always see the cutout , ( please checkout the images of a 2012 Roomster Scout ) . to put this matter to bed !! today I made contact with my local Skoda Dealership and asked the question !! For a modest payment of £150 I can have this fittment supplied and fitted , so !! I ordered the part today

I'd say that's a reasonably good price from a dealership. There is a cover panel cutout marked on the inside of the bumper, Skoda have a special tool to cut this out perfectly, however it would be possible to do it with a hole cutter to round the corners and a sharp stanley knife. There is a housing for the panel needs to be bonded to the inside of the bumper to strengthen it and hold the panel in place. It's quite possible to do this yourself as removing the bumper isn't that difficult if you're confident working on cars but it's always going to be easier to pay a dealership to do it.

If you ordered the vehicle from factory with towbar prep this is what you would usually get (as well as the wiring loom run from the fuse board to the back).

DieselV6 - I have seen your photos of the SIARR flange bar and I can see why you would be unhappy with it but the Westfalia detachable is made by Westfalia themselves rather than SIARR. From experience Westfalia bars seem to be made absolutely perfect every time.

Hope this helps.

I agree about Westfalia in-house towbars being of quality, that is why I bought it initially. However, Westfalia took over SIARR a few years back and evidently they cannot enforce the same quality. The trouble is that now Westfalia/SIARR towbars are advertised as Westfalia towbars, for obvious reason of quality brand name.

Panel or not, with a detachable towbar on the back of Roomster you still end up with far bigger disruption to bumper cover than with a flange towbar. Flange towbar cutout is about 65mm x 100mm, detachable towbar bumper cover panel is more like 75mm x 190mm or so.

We should be encouraging people to post in the Roomster forum, not discouraging. Sheesh.

Help, please!!

After searching through as much as I could find on the forum about removing the rear bumper on a Roomster I decided it must be simple enough.

In order to fit a towbar to my 2008 1.9TDI Scout I removed every fastener, thinking that the bumper would then just slide back and off. I took out 3x torx screws plus 1x expanding plastic rivet from inside each wheelarch. Also removed the 2 x torx from the topside and further 2 x torx from the underside. I expected at this point that the assembly would just pull away, but the plastic cover seems to be stuck fast along its upper edge below the seal for the boot lip. I'm now wondering if I'm wrongly trying to pull the plastic cover away from the bumper frame, which should have come away, but is stuck in the chassis somehow.

Can anyone tell me, please, if the bumper should come away consisting of metal section plus plastic moulding, or should I be trying to free the plastic moulding from whatever it's fixed to below the boot lip?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks, Paul C
