Startup problems

Featured Replies

Hi all

I've got a '54 plate Octavia mk2, 1.9TDI. I tried starting it up this morning- CD player and interior lights worked as usual, dashboard warning lights didn't and temperature readout on CD player said it was -50 celsius (it was warm and sunny). Starter motor did its stuff several times but the engine would die after a few revs.

A few hours later, I tried it again and this time it started fine, no problems, although the clock and trip mileage had reset themselves.

Any idea what this could be caused by? I've done a little digging around on this forum, could it be one of the relays under the dashboard?

Thanks

James

guess only sounds like a bad earth batt' OK? I would clean and load check it what voltage are the starters are these ? anyone?

I'll have a look at the battery and clean the connectors, probably won't harm to do so! Thanks. Any other ideas?

There is an earth to the cars body near to the battery somewhere that is well known for corroding / coming loose.
