Skoda Octavia Scout Tdi - Clutch Noise

Featured Replies

Seem to have an issue with my clutch which I can't seem to tie down. Basically when the engine is cold, i.e first thing in the morning, I get a noise when the clutch pedal is approx halfway from fully pressed to fully lifted.

It sounds a bit like the noise you'd get if you were trying to engage the gears without fully engaging the clutch, bit like a light cog on cog noise if that makes sense. Like I say, fully depressed or fully lifted there's no noise at all, just seems to occur during travel between the two positions.

However, it makes this noise with the car in neutral. Get it down the road after things have been turning and hey presto all quiet again for the rest of the day even after car is stood all day at work. Next morning same again. Any clues ?

Car runs smooth, no hiccups, no vibration, not difficult to engage gears etc..etc...

I'm assuming that at the point it makes this noise the gear change is complete?

I.e. you aren't actually releasing the clutch too early and grinding the gears?

There is a known issue with the Scout where the first few set-offs after a cold start on a morning results in clutch slip/judder.

This disappears after the moisture that forms on the clutch plates overnight wears off.

I wonder as your issue seems related to the engine temperature that it could be linked?

This is before I engage any gears so it's in neutral with engine at idle.
