Thinking of upgrading from a 03 to an 06 octavia, would i be correct in assuming both engines from those years are the same

thanks

Yes, the trusty VAG 1.9 PD engine has been around a long time in various forms (power output)!

I don't know much about the Mk1 Octavia, but assuming the 03 model has a PD 1.9 TDI, then I suspect the 06 1.9 TDI will be the same engine.

Having said that the mk2 1.9 PD's have different engine codes and slightly different power outputs so might not be exactly identical to the earlier engine (although they cant be much different mechanically)

What HP is your current Octy I? Engine options on an 03 octy were either 110hp (non-pd) which would use an old school rotary pump or the rarer 130hp PD which came with a 6 speed box. I'm not sure the 105 bhp pd engine used in the Octy II made it into the Octy I until about 2005 when the Octy I was being produced alongside the Octy II(?)

I have recently gone from a 110 hp octy I to a 105 hp PD Octy II 4x4. Finding it hard to draw conclusions as the new car is much heavier and slower off the mark but I do feel the PD engine may not be as refined as the 110 was. It does have more torque below 2000 rpm but also feels like it runs out of puff sooner higher up the rev range.

Don't forget the MK1 also had the 90bhp engine depending on the trim level...

The 105bhp engine never went int the MK1, only MK2...

Had a bit of a read around and it was the 100 HP PD that made it into the Mk 1 from 2005/6 onwards so yeah they never fitted the 105.

I'd actually thought they had ditched the 90 HP engine before 2003. Mate at work said his 2003 ambiente is a 110. Is the Ambiente a 90 then?

Mark.

I have an 03 ambiente with a non pd ALH 90hp lump. So.........Yes

I reckon he must have been jealous of my thundering 110 horses!

Having owned an '03 mk1 1.9Tdi and an '06 mk2 1.9Tdi concurrently I can state that they are NOT the same mechanically. Might be same block and internals but not a lot of interchangeable ancillary parts engine wise.

Might be same block and internals

In my book, that means they are the same Mechanically!
