1.4 MPI starts and idles, soon as you blip it, it dies...any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Had our Fabia 1.4 MPi for a dogs age now and it has been OK, just got a recent issue I have searched and found nowt...

It was parked unused for 8 weeks while the Mrs had her leg in plaster (she is OK though, please don't worry!) started the car, was absolutely fine on idle, as soon as you touch the accelerator pedal it dies. Can sometimes restart and leave it idling, then once warmed up it is fine, bit sluggish but OK.

We have been starting it 5 mins before setting off and all is well.

Sometimes you start it, press the accelerator to the floor and it just about idles, if you take your foot off it stalls, but will restart, keep your foot on the floor it will just about keep going until it warms up a bit and all is good again.

If it is warm, it will restart and behave normally.

Would it be a temperature sensor? No warning lights have come up on the dashboard.

Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

Many thanks

Even though there are no warning lights, a code read may still reveal the problem.

Cleaning the throttle body only costs a can of carb cleaner, and may help.
