Total electrical failure

Featured Replies

Hi everybody. I am going nuts here trying to solve the riddle my 2002 Octavia has thrown up. I had a problem with battery drain last week. I had to call the AA. Was told it was the charge cable that runs between the alternator and battery and the fuse box on top of the battery. The cable was over heating. I changed the harness and the fuse box. The car still started and ran until I disconnected the battery to do the changes. I left the battery disconnected over night and installed the new parts. When everything was hooked up again there is absolutely no electrical power in the car. I tried jump leads and still no power. Totally dead. Not even dash board info. I thought it might be the immobiliser but the light isn't even showing for that. Any guidance will be gratefully received.

Have you put all the fuses on top of the battery back right and do you have power to both sides of them

They to go back in the right position with the correctly rated fuse link. All the fuse links are not the same.

yeah. put all the fuses back in the right places. checked all the positions and values. rechecked all the connections to make sure they were clean and fully connected. it has me totally baffled

Depending on the version of the fusebox, there is either a strip of metal or a short piece of wire that connects from the +ve terminal to the fusebox on top of the battery. Is that connected?

Yeah. all connected.

Am going to do a complete check of connections again now.

have you tested the battery ?

  • Author

Yeah checked battery. Like I said earlier even when connected to jump leads there is no life in the car. Have just checked everything and changed the master fuse. Still no joy.
