Reverse light switch

Featured Replies

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue im having with my reverse lights. (Octavia Vrs mk1)

Basically if i take the reverse light switch off the gearbox and push the little switch on the end the reverse lights come on.

If i screw the switch back on to the gearbox and put it in reverse the lights won't come on.

Im presuming that the gearbox isn't pushing on the switch properly  but to be honest this has me stumped.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks for your time.

Have the reversing lights ever worked whilst you've had the car?

A common cause is often a problem with the o-ring. Sometimes when the switch is replaced you end up with two o-rings.

Incorrect torque is another possible cause. It should be 20Nm. If you screw it in without any o-rings the light should be on all the time.

Thanks for the quick reply, no the lights have never worked as long as iv had the car.

By the O-Ring i presume you mean the washer over the top of the switch? - I have tried to remove this but it was very difficult to remove as it kept catching on the thread...i'll have another go at trying to get it off.

I managed to get it working, I took the washer/O-Ring off the switch and it now works correctly...It doesn't use any O-Rings at all now which is weird i suppose but as long as it works i'm not going to argue.

Thanks for the help.
