Sooty Exhaust

Featured Replies

Does anyone else suffer with a sooty chrome exhaust end on the VRS. This has been more of a problem just recently and i noticed more so after a drive today. I had cleaned the tail pipes and noticed after a short run of 10 miles a fair bit of soot. Also i notice a bit of black smoke on odd occasions when i plant my foot down. Is this linked to the oil usage?

My pipes get fairly sooty, never noticed any smoke when driving it myself but when I've been following SWMBO have seen the occasional puff of the black stuff being emitted. Mine uses no hardly any oil at all tho so it's never really bothered me! P.s since I've had the stainless Milltek on it the pipes have been much easier to keep clean - gentle wipe with a damp cloth and they are sparkling again in a jiffy :-)

Ive again topped up with oil today. That is 7L in 9000 miles. Email to SUK as well...

Mine gets filthy too, clean it and a week later its coated again. Haven't noticed any plumes of smoke and mine isn't too bad on oil

Makes it more fun cleaning it next time seeing how much of a difference you've made :sun:

7L in 9000 thats within i think mines going through nearly 1L every 1000 miles. Black smoke is fine, i had a puff of blue smoke a week ago but oil level looked fine after and it was a big puff of smoke covered the van behind me. Was just after a service so think they might have over filled slightly

I'm not sure that's within the tolerance ? 1 litre per 1000 miles ?

Noooooo not another oil consumption thread haha!

I remember reading on this site that the vRS engine runs quite rich so perhaps that might be why the tailpipes soot up?

I know .. Didn't mean to. Just f***s me off to pay £14,000 for a car that drinks oil like some old banger and puffs out black smoke. Reminds me of the trotters van without the oil consumption. Lovely Jubbbley ....

mine doesn't use oil, but puffs black smoke occasionally, sooty pipes, and black spots on the back when its been thrashed :)

TSI engines produce more particulates due to direct injection. Sooty exhaust end is normal, even with no visible oil consumption (like mine 1.2)

We pay £15 a year more road tax than the Audi or VW, so we should be able to get a Sooty Exhaust.

Good when you can have one with good fuel consumption, but can also get thrashed & no high oil usage.

I will only worry when it is not sooty!

?Do the Audi's & VW's get a sooty exhaust if they get driven.?

Phone call from Skoda UK today and they want me to take the car into my dealership for the oil weighing process. Whilst on the phone they mentioned if mine was found to be using a considerable amount then there was a fix. They didn't mention what the fix was though. Funny that because i know its using too much ******* oil hence my complaint, i didn't just dream it up. I went on to mention a number of people across the VAG group were experiencing problems with the same and the line went silent for a few seconds . Why they just don't admit that some of the early vehicles have issues and recall them is beyond me. If my issue is not resolved then i suggest a call to Ann Robinson with contact details of all those with problems..

Skoda UK may offer to pay for your oil if you raise it with them. Current fixes are piston ring replacement or oil breather modification, although you don't get to choose and you have to go through the consumption test first.

I had enough comments about the state of my dirty back passage and my lack of care and attention to it,

so i decided it needed dealing with for once and for all.

So i painted it.

Sorted.

I used to polish mine with a bit of brasso or similar. stopped the soot sticking and the rain generaly washed it off too.
