Hellooooooooo! I'm new!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I've just bought myself a 2000 Octavia 1.9 SDi.....

Few niggling issues, and I'm hoping some of you lovely people can hep me.

My mileage gauge does not work. I thought I'd simply swap the speedo unit over, but did this and the car would not start with the replacement. Any ideas?

The previous owner also replaced th gear knob, the new 1 does not allow lift-up reverse, so very easy to go into reverse when you want 1st. Will this just be a case of replacing with an original knob?

Thanks.

Welcome.

The instrument cluster has the immobiliser built into it, so if you change it the car won't start. You need to get it reprogrammed.

As for reverse, you need to push the gear stick down to get it into reverse.

Ahhhh. Right, thanks.

Any ideas if it's easy enough to simply slot a new mileage display part in the existing speedo? Seems like a job to get it reprogrammed.

How good are you with a soldering iron?

I just really want to get this speedo sorted if you or anyone can help. Really annoying I don't know mileage or trip etc etc

Hi and welcome aboard.

you need to either go and find someone with the correct software tools (W8 performance are close to you by the look of things) or...

You could get the instrument cluster, ecu and the transponder bits out of the keys from another car, making sure it is the same engine code etc. Then swap all of this into your car. However the mileage won't be right and you will need someone with the appropriate software to correct it.

Did you buy the car privately?

Where are W8 based? And how much do you think this'll cost?

I think they are based in Abridge. No idea on cost though.
