6 speed gearbox

Featured Replies

Would a 6 speed gearbox swap strait in instead of a 5 speed one, 1.9 tdi 55 plate

I've been thinking about that very same question as i'm just about to buy a 1.9tdi and would miss the 6 speed box.

I don't think it's straight in as you'd at least need a new flywheel and clutch.

Don't think it's a huge job though, any more than any other gearbox change.

I seem to remember someone who researched it before, and it was a massive job...hope not though, I'd love a 6 speed in my BXE!

You would definitely have to change the flywheel, which would also require a compatible (so new) clutch.

Thanks Andy,

So thats around £500 fitted so far plus a recon box and labour to fit. Looks like its going to be way too expensive.

There's a guy from UK who I have seen on TDIclub . Seems to have lots of mechanical bits for sale for this sort of conversion, but you'll have to do a search.

Re your dilemma, when is your DMF due to implode?

It's certainly a change to do when the box has to come off and the dmf is being replaced.

Don't forget your old box will have some value too.
