6.6 degrees of negative toe-in!!!

Featured Replies

Bloody hell!

Just came away from a laser 4WA check at Protyre in Exeter, and the results of the test were shocking - Techie came back in with printout and muttered "that Skoda's alignment was knackered!" 6.6 degrees total toe-in

Now been altered to halfway between the two tolerance settings and it has worked a treat. The car was starting to get a little "skittery" on long, fast bends and I wasn't sure what the problem was - something I simply adapted to, rather than got looked at. As a 4WA check was part of my new suspension "repetoire" it's proved useful. Now it seems to grip a lot more that the front wheels have been straightened out by nearly 4 degrees each!

Best

Is this a side effect of you replacing all the suspension?

It wouldn't surprise me if the suspension changes caused a misalignment. You definitely did the right thing getting it checked out **and sorted** as only when set up right you'd get the performance you've just spent all that dosh on :D (plus you'll save that 20 quid in tyre wear very quickly I would have thought ;))

anyone who ever changes their suspension should get the alignments checked after a while of bedding in, changing the suspension will nearly always effect it and can obviously cause some bad problems later on

Does this apply to strut brace addition?

Does this apply to strut brace addition?

Nope. Only to changes in the suspensions, i.e dampers and springs. They affect the geometry by effectively "squatting" the car when seriously lowered like mine. I think the geo' may have been out before I had the suspension done as the handling wasn't top notch like it is now, even with the old eibach dampers on (and AMD sorted out my 4WA with them on way back last Summer)

Never mind - I'm happy now though.

The strut brace just helps keep the car from flexing a little more, if you like. Jason's dropped his by a fair bit :D

I bet it goes like on rails now, although if I ever had to race him I'd find a road with loads of speedbumps & potholes :D

(otherwise I wouldn't have a hope in hell  )
