Front wipers stopped

Featured Replies

My front wipers have stopped working since the car went into the garage to have the drivers window looked at (it fell out). They have had a quick look, checked all the fuses, bonnet is closed, but they don't know without it coming in for a good look over. They are a skoda independant, know what they are talking about generally and i trust them, but cant afford their labour charges if i can avoid it or to have the car off the road as the wife uses it for the kids and work. The washers still work as do the rear wipers.

Anybody have any ideas about where i or they could look first? Car is a 56 Octavia 1.6 fsi.

Thanks guys

The bonnet lach has a lever that acts on a micro swich ,this lever can sieze and will not register that the bonnet is shut and the wipers will not work,

if this is the case remove the lach and lubricate the mechanisam ,as a quick check un plug the micro switchand bridge out the loom with a paper clip shut the bonnet and se if wipers work , I have come across this many times on all vag cars

hope this helps

Thanks, but I dont think this is the problem as they did check this and the washers still work.

I've had the wheel boxes seize.

Anyone?

The wiper arm sits on the top of wheelbox, where the drive for the wiper arm turns through 90 after the linkage from the motor. They are out there in the rain and snow.

I've never had to look on my 1Z, but on the 1U all was visible once the scuttle cover over the pollen lifter was removed. I did try a spray but no joy, a strip down and moly grease worked a treat.
