I might have mentioned this before but the euphoria had made me giddy.

Had the MK 2 Octy for a few weeks now, and am nothing short of amazed by the mixture of performance and economy.

On a run to the Lincolnshire coast along A roads it returned 47mpg, whilst not exactly going at warp speeds (those of you who know Linlc roads will testify to this) I wasn't hanging around either.

And on a trip into Lincoln this morning she returned 33 mpg. Thses are figures I coud have only dreamed about in my Audi 2.5tdi.

Having the 6 speed manual box is a dream too. My Audi had an auto 'box (this was its eventual demise) and I thought I would really miss it going back to manual.

But just like the Skoda salesman told us, stick it up into 6th ASAP and the engine torque will do the rest. As long as you stay above 1000rpm it'll go from about 30mph in 6th, and just to watch the mpg figures on the 'putor (I'm a bit sad that way) is a joy to behold.

But it also has the poke to accelerate, drop it down to 4th or 3rd and it will go like greased weasel poo.

Overall I'm well chuffed with it, and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Happy you are enjoying it.

Not so sure on the advice on sticking it in 6th above 1000 rpm/30 & the torque will do the rest.

I have a feeling that you might just get better economy with the use of 3rd ,4th & 5th a bit to use the best and most economic power band before going to 6th.

I am probably wrong tho.

You might want to manually calculate the MPG for a couple of tanks as the computer has a habit of trying to flatter the car!
