Featured Replies

As above surely all 5w30/5w40 fully synthetic oil is suitable for an octy vrs?

I dont get what all this 502/504/505/507 is about?

Oil is oil right?

Oil is oil right?

Nope - the same as petrol isn't petrol (95 RON, 98 RON, 4 Star, 2 Star etc.)

I understand that, what i mean is 5w30 Oil has different 'specs.'

How can one 5w30 oil be suitable for one manufacturer & not another?

I topped mine up today with 5w30 vw507 fully synthetic.

It appeared a bit runnier

Reason im asking is in the vain hope it doesn't matter having vw502/vw505 in a petrol vrs!

Wasnt until after i had put 4.7 litres in & putting the rest of the bottle in the boot that i noticed those numbers werent the recommended ones!

All this after removing the jack & replacing the engine tray!

Have i just wasted £30 worth of oil? LOL!!!!

What oil did you put in?

Are you saying it didn't have VW 502.00 or VW 505.00 on the container?

It does have VW502/VW505 on the back.

But iv read on here it should be 504/507?

not sure about petrol engines but using the wrong oil in PD diesel can lead to premature camshaft wear.

You are OK then, VW 502.00 is for petrol engines on the fixed service regime i.e. 10,000 miles / one year.

Thank god for that!

Thought i was gonna be spending my sunday afternoon underneath the car again.

Cheers for that pal.

Ideally you should have used VW 504.00 as this has superceeded VW 502.00. VW 504.00 meets Euro IV emissions standards.

However you'll be fine with the VW 502.00 oil you put in!
