Which petrol for Octavia vRS TSi?

Featured Replies

So I have had my brilliant Octavia for 2 weeks. Apologies if this has been done to death already but which petrol are most people using?

On the fuel cap it says 95 RON but underneath says 'super unleaded'. The dealer recommended using super unleaded all the time.

I have tried Esso super plus (97 RON) which gave me 40mpg plus on my motorway commute. Tesco Momentum 99 and Shell Optimax gives ~37mpg for the same commute (I didn't change driving style). I haven't filled it with 'regular' unleaded as yet but am tempted to give it a go. In town I am getting about 28mpg with all fuel types.

What are the panels thoughts?

Mine runs on Sainsbury's 97 Ron. 95 Ron is the minimum quality required

If your getting 3mpg more with one then stick with that. I would be surprised if thats a correct figure though. Prevailing wind would affect this. If 3mpg could be gained by one suppliers fuel they would be singing this from the hills.

When I picked mine up (same car) the dealer said to put super in 'every now and again' but I'm pretty sure the manual says that you can use 95 without performance penalty on the TSi. My old Mazda 3 MPS used to require 98 and you could tell the difference if you put regular unleaded in, but no real difference between 99 or 97.

I would run it on Shell V Power as it has cleaning additives to keep the injectors, fuel pump etc clean..

i only use v-power in my TSI Vrs and i only ever used v-power in my last TFSi Vrs

Thanks for the replies and that link.

I think it's only the TFSI that really needs super 97+ RON. TSI should be fine on standard stuff but I'd put in Shell etc rather than supermarket stuff if possible.

Of course by Shell Optimax I mean Shell V-Power!! Schoolboy error.

I didnt find it made much difference when stock, but now Im stage 2 I can tell the difference, it likes super better!

Shell v power is the best for turbo cars! It's all I would ever use in my track day Subaru. Cleans and gives much better power without knocking.
