Any alternative to getting a HU out?

Featured Replies

As the title really, need to get my Sympathy HU out but me and my local dealer do not have the bits to get them out... Any other instruments that can be used??

Or is anyone localish with the bits? I am in MK, cheers :)

all sorts, first try your local friendly stereo people. or just get some real thin metal about 4-5mm wide and stick it in

or you could try your local VW/AUDI/SEAT place, they may help

Make sure you push them in as far as they will go, an old RAC membership card might work better as its a little more rigid.

1. Cut some strips out of a suitable victim. Make sure you use decent scissors:

2. It'll look something like this. Note, the mango smoothie is essential:

3. Might want to take out some of those blanks to make things a little easier. BE CAREFUL, pulling on the top-cover-part of the headunit isn't great as the plastic face can pop off, maybe destroying a clip. Use your fingers and not a screwdriver on the top part. The sides are pretty robust, so a screwdriver is fine there - cover it in cloth to minimise marking the trim.

4. Voila. It was time for the news so just thought I'd catch the headlines before I pulled out the plugs on the back:

HTH.

thats a damn fine method, good job that man!

How do you get those blanks out?

pull em

Wedge a screwdriver underneath, you'll come out easy. Put a cloth over the end to stop marking the interior though

Walkie when do you need it out by?

And why didnt you ask me?

Yup thats what we used the Kenwood keys, work fine, although its still bloody stiff to pull out!

Straightened out brass picture hooks also work a treat!
