on my 5th Skoda; was bullied into my first and reluctantly bought one.. have been addicted ever since; have a 6 year old Roomster and its now making a strange whirring sound that is more noticeable when slowing and coming to a stop.. is this a common fault and am I correct in thinking it is gearbox related?

does it make the same noise with the clutch depressed?
