What kind of fuel am I?

Featured Replies

Without wishing to start a "Which is best? discussion, can someone help with the sticker inside the fuel flap on my 1.4 tsi. It says min 95 RON Super unleaded. This seems to contradict itself as I thought 95 RON was ordinary unleaded and Super unleaded was 97 RON or more.

Thanks in advance, Mozart.

Elsewhere in Europe it's quite common to call 95 RON 'Super' to distinguish it from 91 RON 'ordinary', even though the latter is seldom available.

In some parts of the world 'Super' is applied to fuels as low as 92 RON.

In short, the term 'Super' has no universal or fixed meaning.

The post above tells you all you need to know. :)

So it'll be quite happy on UK regular unleaded. Assuming you are in the UK of course, as you have no location in your profile.

Does it say "super" or does it say "premium" unleaded? 95 RON fuel is strictly called premium unleaded in the UK, distinguished from super unleaded, which is something higher.

Who's Ron????

That's what 'somebody' said, anyway ;)

Thanks for all the replies folks. I think I got a shock when I read Super Unleaded on the sticker. I notice that the sticker inside those VW's fuel flap which require minimum 98 RON says Super Premium Unleaded.
