Throttle problems

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Having a problem with a 2011 1.4tsi octavia.

On my way to work tonight I had to brake hard as a 4x4 reversed out of a drive as I approached, he did stop to look but I wasn't taking the chance.

Anyway, changed from 6th down to second and drove off, into 3rd for a bit and back into 2nd to take a 90deg bend, accelerated out of the bend and changed to 3rd at which point the throttle pedal went very stiff and the engine unresponsive.

I had to press the pedal fairly firmly and just managed very slowly the last 1/2 mile to work.

Left the car for about 1/2 hour and tried it again, throttle pedal is now back to normal, as in not stiff but the engine will not rev above 4000rpm, it revs to 4000 quickly and stops dead like electronically limited, I drove the car round the car park and I have full power (traction control cuts in) pulls right up to 4000 and then nothing.

No warning light showing on the dash

Any ideas what it might be as I wont be able to get to the garage till next week, (12hr nights till Monday)

Thanks in advance

Well, drove home this morning and all is back to normal, strange car, now live in fear this will happen again coming out a junction into fast flowing traffic.

If you have it in neutral then it will only rev to ~3800 revs. It is indeed electronically limited.

As for the other bits, dunno..

Thanks MBR.

I have had a wee play with the limiter now that I know about it.

It appears to engage when the vehicle is stationary, that is to say handbrake can be off or on and the car in gear it will still limit at 3800rpm provided you are not moving, and by moving I mean about 2kph forward or reverse, only discovered it because I was on a very slight slope at the time.

As for the original issue, it has not reappeared so I am assuming whatever it was has reset itself, fingers crossed.

Get it booked in.

It's under warranty.

The car's ECU records most faults. Once the dealer plugs the car in it'll tell them which component generated the fault.
