Good Morning boys and girls,

I am thinking of going back into motocross and will need a towbar and small bike trailer for my Fabia VRS.

I remember reading something about the VRS not being towing approved. Is this still the case?

In addition I would rather not cut my bumper so what towbar/s would you guys recommend?

Any help much appreciated.

vrs is not a registered tow car.

i read somewhere someone was looking into registering there car

but as far as i know - VRS = No Tow

I bought the vrs to do this, but......

you can get towbars to fit but to the letter of the law its cant tow

I've spoken to Vosa about this at length - you could get an SVA test to prove the towbar is fitted safely. And you might get approval to tow on the road with the certificate. But Vosa / DVLA refused to state if this would still be illegal to tow with on the public road. Or if it would invalidate your insurance.

the vrs was never put forward as an approved tow car.

I would be ok to put a towbar on and use one of those bike carriers tho? Seens its not 'towing'

Carrying a bike carrier on a towbar will still come in under the its illegal section of illegal! As the fact a towbar is fitted to a non-approved vehicle makes it so! makes your insurance invalid!

There will not be an update. The car takes any type approval at the time of manufacture and cannot gain type approval at a later date.

There were a handful of '97 Octavias that were manufactured before the type approval was granted. VOSA refused to update the V5s of these cars.

I was looking to fit a towbar to my VRS to carry a trials bike. The idea was to get a towbar fitted and then rather than tow (as the car is not homologated to do this) I was looking to fit a carry rack. Spoke to my insurance company and they did not have any objections. I guess technically its illegal because of the lack of homologation but who will ever check? Maybe I'm being naieve? The only problem is finding someone to fit a towbar and living with a large cut in the bumper.

It's this serious - you have a crash and the assessor know what they are doing (they can even flash your ecu and see if you have had a map done and not declared) then you insurance will be invalid - whether the insurance company is ok with it or not - the "IT'S ILLEGAL" card trumps everything.

With respect to the OP who is a new member on here this has been discussed to death in the past.

It is simply not legal to attach a towbar to a Mark 1 Fabia vRS.
