Intermittent EGR Error: ODBII 4891/4892

Featured Replies

Hello,

Whilst travelling back from St. Ives on Monday my Yeti displayed an "Engine Fault, Workshop!" message and the glow-plug light started to flash. The vehicle continued to run, all be it with reduced power.

We pulled into the services and got the RAC to check it but they couldn't reproduce the error. They pulled the two error codes 4891 and 4892 which is to do with the EGR system. Anyway, we continued for a few junctions with the RAC man following and all was well. 30s after he left us at a junction the fault re-occurred. Pulled over, restarted and continued. it happened 2-3 times more but for the final 70 miles home it was faultless. Took it in for services yesterday and they checked it over and found no fault. Its been fine since Monday evening.

Has anyone else had this issue?

This happened to us (April 2010 140 TDi 4x4, 36k miles) whilst coming home from France. RAC bloke said okay to drive it home, albiet slowly (105 miles!). Got it checked out at a local Skoda dealer who replaced the EGR valve. They said they'd never seen one go before and it was a 4 hour job. I'd get it checked again.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it until the end of the week and if it reoccurs send it back to the Vets,

My Yeti has just developed a similar problem.

The glow plug light is flashing and the cars in safety mode.

I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer as to what they suggest I do next (have managed to limp home).

Muckypaws, did this problem come back, and if so what was done?

Hi Dave,

Nope, Yeti has behaved perfectly ever since.
