MY GARAGE CANNOT GET RID OF THE EMISSIONS WORKSHOP AND ESP LIGHT FROM APPEARING ON SCREEN, whither that has anything to do with this quite violent shudder from the gearbox, I don't know and neither does the garage.

Please let me know if anyone has had a similar problem in a 2.5, Elegance auto TDI?

For the want of stating the obvious, you might want to take it to a transmission specialist - if it is the box. Does it leak transmission fluid? (Incorrect fluid levels can cause all sorts).

My last car (Saab) had to have a new valve body in the transmission due to a severe 'thunk' on take-up. Cost £1000 to fix and to be honest if it happens again I'd just replace the box.

But it can only really be conjecture and guesswork until the fault's are properly diagnosed.
