Boost problem Help..!

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am trying to find a little help!

I bought a boost Guage(Bar) for my Octi Vrs 2002 the oher day, Iv just fitted it and plumbed it in.

Now the problem i have is knowing what Bar of Boost it should be running at, The negative vacuum is ok running at -8ish but there is definitley a problem with my boost as i am only getting a reading of 0.5 bar boost, What boost should it be running at.

And can anyone poss point me in the directions of what i need to check for this low boost pressure.

My car seems to have no grunt..

Cheers

Drew

0.7-0.8 bar for stock,

1 bar ~ stage 1,

1.3~1.5 bar stage 2

So it is loosing boost somewhere as its only running 0.5 bar, I take it that the normal needs to be done, Check vac hoses, turbo hoses, intercooler hoses etc etc........

Drew

Vac pressure sounds low too, could be a vac leak

When you say vac leak, do you mean i have to check turbo hoses and air pipes as mentioned above?

Cheers

You need to check all the pipes in the bay, especially under the manifold

Yeah i was reading somewhere on here that apparently there is a pipe under the air intake that has a tendancy to erode!

Anyway i know my Job for Tomorrow, "spanners at the ready im going in"!!!!! Oh and a few beers.....

Will post back tomorrow and let you know how i get on,

Cheers Dave, Cheers Gonzaga.....

Just a Quick one David8,

What negative Vac should my boost guage be telling me?

In psi it should show about -26 on idle. You'll have to do the maths to convert as I'm in the park atm.

If your vac is around -0,7 ~ -0,8 bar that is OK.

You should check your fuel trims in block 032 via Vag com, this should give you clearer picture what is happening.

Check the hoses after the turbo to inlet manifold, especially rubber hose which connects metal L shape pipe and pancake pipe.

Recently i have ordered vac hose kit with metal check valve. It`s all in one piece and it`s really good quality.

I like the looks of that vac hose kit.

Anyway back onto my Boot pressure, iv converted it to psi! Im getting a negative 11.6. when driving i will get a boost of about +10.15 psi then settles to 7.2psi after fully boosting, You say this is ok Gonzaga?????.

i just converted this using a online convertor......

Also is the Vrs always renowned for making quite a whoosing sound on turbo pick up?, im guessing its called "spooling"......

Cheers

Could the gauge be at fault ? Mine gets a different reading each time and put it down to the gauge not being correct

If you are stage 1 then it should be higher

Los of places that the boost can escape but in order, start with the pancake pipe join, then the other end of that pipe goes into a metal receiver with circlip and owing seals, after that the line from the intake manifold down to the crank breather can crack and also the one way check valve is sh1te. I also had problems with the "brake booster/suction jet pump". So when I did the lines under the manifold I used some fuel line check valves, now I boost to 19-21psi and vac is 25 at idle
