Egr ? Turbo ? confused HELP

Hi all

I have been having probs for quite a while with noisy engine idle,At first i thought it was just exhaust leak

But when having starter motor cleaned at a nearbyish skoda dealer (victoria garage Maud)

I asked them to check for leak , nothing found but did say car sounded a bit throaty but no lights or error codes

Carriied on using it as taxi , but noise getting worse IMO so heard of a lad that is mastertech at Seat here

Who stuck it on ramp and said that it was turbo as he could see black marks around turbo, told me to get recon

And phone him back, went in search of a bpz coded turbo not cheap!! so rather than just go ahead and buy one

decided to head out to victoria garge for 2nd opinion, thay were doing a cv joint replacement for me anyway (under joint warranty)

Service manager there said egr valve wrecked is coked up and has oil in it ! he said if it was just the sooty stuff it could be cleaned

But not with oil mixed in, now i dont know what to do ? who to believe is correct, Car is 1.9td 2007 and has 113.000 on clock

It still has full power when foot is put down, sometimes with a cloud of black smoke, i At stop you can get same smoke

If car is revved to 3000rpm You are getting a sort of womping kind of noise coming from around front of car

And if you listen to the black plastic pipe that comes from airbox the noise is coming through that pipe

i am not very technically minded so saying something about intercooler etc will go over my head SORRY

The cost to replace egr at skoda dealer is £326 fitted but service manager said if it was him he would just run it

As he cant promise that replacing egr would get rid of noise and then went on about "piston slap" or something

But it is getting noiser by the day, and think something will need to be done

Oh and just in case it helps car sounds like it is ticking over faster but looking at rev counter is still the same 900-930 rpm

It has been since i got it at 27000

And it seems i cant go back to the seat guy as he seems to have taken offence at me asking for 2nd opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
