Headlamp Bulb Upgrade

Featured Replies

I want to upgrade my halogen headlamps with some 'superbright' bulbs.

Can some kind owner confirm they are H4s?

Suggestions on upgrade make welcome

I think the fogs are H7 but should I upgrade them as you are not supposed to use them except in poor conditions

Thanks

Oddly the latest owners manual (05/12) does not appear to include information on bulb types required, although previous versions do :wonder:

Anyway from earlier manuals;

Front headlight Halogen

Low beam/Main beam H4

Parking lights W5W

Daylight driving lights P13W

Turn signals HPC24WY

Fog lights H7

Thank you for the confirmation.

I did read the manual and I was surprised bulbs were not listed

I changed my H4's to Osram Nightbreaker Plus today and I'm very impressed with the improvement over the standard H4 that are factory fitted. It was £23 well spent. The nearside is the trickiest to get at and I've got sore knuckles to show for it. Offside easy.

Used all the time at night if you have the cornering fogs fitted.....

Another  for Osram Nightbreaker Plus H4 bulbs for the headlights.

I don't think I have cornering fogs on a SE+. I am wondering if I can hook up with a VCDS owner to sprinkle the appropriate fairy dust.

I am wary of using fogs all the time. I was blue lighted by Mr Plod a few years ago.

The fogs are quite high on the Yeti....are they OK for normal nighttime use?

I dont think anyone is recommending the use of fogs at night! That's my pet hate, right there! The only ones that seem to do it around these parts are the chavs in their Corsas and some BMW drivers!

Me too. Never used mine........apart from when they come on when turning, which you can't turn off.

My fogs do get used at night (and day) but in anger, oh and it's for low cloud rather than fog over the Wold top :giggle:

Meteorologists amongst you may say their one and the same, who knows I just fix pipes

OK got it. I need to get cornering fogs enabled on VCDS and with H7 bulbs I will see a bit more ....

This forum is brilliant....more so than my lights!

Phillips X-treme vision or PIAA Extreme White plus get my vote. I've got the H7 X-treme vision in my fog lights and they do make a difference over OEM spec bulbs.

Fog lights - I do use them occasionally on unlit roads to get better illumination of the kerb/verge, including on the Motorway in heavy rain/spray. Also useful on their own in falling snow when my xenon headlights create too much glare from reflections off the snow; but then I guess that's what they are designed for.

OK thanks. Osram NB+ ordered. I read a review where the Philips were good, even better than Osram but only slightly but bulb life not so good. Time will tell I guess.

Both H4 and H7 fitted this afternoon.

A small powerful light, mirror and a bit of patience helped. About an hour including tea drinking.
