Fabia VRS MPG

Featured Replies

Hi done 165 miles since ive got her but only getting 27.6 mpg you can see the fuel gauge moving. The brochure says (read below) Every 1/4 tank costing £20 vpower. Thought i would get at least 40mpg

vRS

Max speed mph (km/h)

140 (226)

Acceleration 0–62mph 7.3

Max. performance (PS/rpm 5,000 180 / 6,200

Max. torque (Nm/rpm )1,500 - 4,100 250 / 2,000 - 4,500

Fuel consumption mpg (l/100km)

Urban* 36.7 (7.7)

Extra Urban* 54.3 (5.2)

Combined* 45.6 (6.2)

CO

2 emissions g/km* 148

they lied ! got 450 miles on mine and currently on my second tank of petrol. Iv'e gone from a pug 407 2,2 hdi 170gt and tried to kid myself id get the same mpg. if i drive like an old maid i get fairly good mpg. when the horns come out though i can see the fuel gauge move as well but its good fun isn't it!

Mpg will inceease after engine has bed in, but theres a recent thread about mpg aswell most people on super unleaded get about 45 if you run normal more likely to get 35/37 but all depends on how you drive as full throttle gets you about 9 mpg lol

Just drive normal well wot i think is normal not been out of (D) set off slow drive at 30/40 only 6 miles to work and 6 miles back

If you switch to oil temp and look i think you might find that it is only up to 50 degrees celcius in 6 miles.

Probably showing 50 degrees just before you stop.

If you went a few miles more the AVG MPG would start to rise.

Probably over 10 miles at this current weather untill your oils up to 80 degrees or so.

then it might be showing over 40 mpg.

You need a couple or more hundred miles on it,

have you set your tyre pressures? & TPMS,

then some miles & using the brakes to wear off your brake pads and disc coating, hand brake looser, bearings and suspension all run in,

& your own fuel in.

What fuel did the dealership put in, was it 95 ron, do you know?

Running in a car is not just the Engine, its everything getting some miles on it.

george

eg. early and cold in the town, 25-35 mpg once oil is hotter,

a few hours later and oil up to temp and speed higher, MPG better.

Hi george I dont think the dealer put any petrol in i done 10 miles then the light came on filled up with vpower till pump click £60 now done 164 miles needle 3 lines till 1/2 tank. used paddles this morning got 32 mpg

Try coming down the gears manually,

or shift back to S to decelerated & then back across or up to D to let it go up the gears its self.

Never been able yet to better the Auto for MPG by driving manually on the up changes,

tried plenty to.

I find that i am never in to 7th by 50 mph if its me changing the gears on a dawdle.

You just needs some more miles on it & longer distances to get the higher MPGs.

Cant be bothered paying £2.20 odds more for 10 gallons worth of the V Power over the Momentum ,

but i will if a Tesco is not on my route.

So while you are driving you can put it into S or Triptronic. and can i use shell normal petrol insread of vpower

I slow down by moving the stick back to 'S'.then just straight back to 'D'. Look at the gears & see if its dropping 2 or 3 gears,

practice and watch where the revs are, if driving hard or more gently, there can be rather different consequences.

For wet roads and winter, i am more inclined to knock across to manual and come down gears one by one.

i hardly ever touch the brakes.

You can use '95 ron' to just potter about, but i wouldnt for a bit more spirited driving.

97 ron Sainsbury Super would be about the same price and i used it last winter.

I did a 250mile trip back home and feathered it as much as poss. Think 60-65 on the A1.

Got 47.8mpg by the time I got back.

Mine has certainly got a lot better with a few miles on the clock. I use the fuelly app to record my MPG and for the last 6 months only been using Tescos momentum. My best over a tank full was 55mpg and my last fill toay 51mpg. Consumption appears to be getting better and peaked at 12,000 miles. However if i use the power then i normally expect about 35mpg.

17 miles each way from a cold start into and out of Dundee including 10 miles of 70 mph dual carriageway.

Just in 'D' and going with the flow, the average is not up till into the 50 degrees oil temp..

Still not up to the best Running temp in 17 miles tho.

50 mpg plus for 20 mile commutes seems OK to me,

& still able to pith off the odd tailgater.

I don't bother with the "into 'S'" mode; just click the left paddle a couple of times when coming to junctions/islands etc. Saves being left in too high a gear when you want to accelerate into a traffic flow as it only changes down in D at about 1200rpm then when you hit the throttle, it has a "moment" whilst it drops 2 or 3 gears...I tend to do this manually before hand and as its temporarily in Manual mode, I have control until up to speed with the surrounding traffic. Just hold the right paddle for a couple of seconds to force it back into D "proper".

I concur with George though - mpg rarely above mid 30's until the oil temp starts to show (i.e. above 50 deg) at which point it rapidly climbs - mid 40's with relative ease now its got over 10k on the clock on journeys over 20 miles or so (commute is normally about 50 miles each way). I can almost guarantee 400 miles from a tank - and the gauge isn't exactly linear in operation! I start a journey with the Oil Temp showing, then change to Range. Rarely use the other bits..

You are not left in too high a gear if its one movement of the gear shifter back to 'S' & you decelerate & without even removing your hand from the Shifter you place it back into 'D'.

Just another and simple why to do it.

What i would like is a 'Heads Up display' on the gear number display, as i still never get my eye straight onto it.

More importantly the most annoying thing to me is there is not a 'A' & 'B' trip set for miles.

Not on the computer but on the Dash reset for 'trip'..

I prefer to keep 2 hands on the steering wheel, George...hence why I use the paddles.

Sounds very sensible and a good idea.

I have only ever driven autos so like the chance to pretend i am driving just like a manual driver so thats me.

& i dislike the paddles on the vRS.

Just as well we are all different.

For the past 2 days i have been driving with stick in manual and then using the paddles getting 38.4mpg.getting better all the time. 36.8mpg in D and S ?

I can get anywhere between 35-45 mpg on a good run and about 600mpl in oil ;) the last bit may be fictional though

Driving home from working in Swansea I get less than 30mpg because it's uphill and having to boot it past dawdling morons. It's much better on a run where I get anything from 36-45mpg depending on how hard I drive

Still frost in patches on the road this morning and freezing fog about so nothing more than 60 mph for 20 miles this morning,

this is the last 10 miles with oil at 80 degrees celsius & just left in 'D' other than for slowing down and staying off the brakes.

george

EDIT, did the same journey later & in a hurry & less MPG, but still not bad.

Between 50-60 seems to be the best and trying not to spin up the turbo

http://www.squidoo.c...rger-technology

It makes all the difference if you are just using the Supercharger below 2,400 rpm

& not the Turbo and you can still get along fast enough.

revs more important than speed for economy often.

More petrol left in the tank for when you do want to start playing and it drinks it at 22 mpg or worse..

Hi where the gauge says 1/1 full i have traveled 24 miles and now the needle is 6 lines less. So at this rate i would have done 48 miles to a 1/4 tank. this does not seem right

I would forget the gauge and go from brimmed to brimmed and you just about know how much petrol you have used.

The gauge is not linear IME.

AS George says brim to brim.

If you fill the last bit carefully, you'll get a few extra litres in the fuel down pipe

I've quite often driven 125 miles before the needle has dropped from Full

I leave the maxidot on 'Journey MPG' ,so I can see it improve with each mile (usually 40-45mpg on my motorway commute)

If I press the button on the underside of the stalk,to 'MPG #2' ,which I reset after each Service, its shows the long term average which is 38.9mpg
