Fuel pump fault after water ingress repair

Featured Replies

Hi folks, new on here looking for a bit of help.

My dad has a 53 plate superb which had several electrical faults which after reading on here we found to be due to the dreaded water ingress.

I have stripped the interior out and removed the soaking carpets and dried them out, removed the battery and the offending bungs, resealed the pollen filter, and cut out and soldered all the wiring "nodes" checked everything worked and rebuilt it. To finish the repairs I cleared all the logged faults but now when I check with VAGCOM it has two new faults which were not present before the repairs. Below is a VAGCOM scan showing the faults

Does anyone know what this might be? The car starts and drives without problem but I am concerned I have missed something or worse created a new problem, possibly a bad solder joint? I cut out all the crimps one by one and soldered them back up, heatshrinking afterwards. If anyone could shed any light on what and where to check I would be very gratefull as it will save me taking it all apart again to double check everything.

Why not reset them all and see of they come back?

You did disconnect the battery before you took the seats out and fiddled with the electrics?

  • Author

Resetting them was the first thing i did unfortunately they come back straight away.

The battery has been on with the seats out to check all the electrics worked but all the faults from this have been cleared.

There is no fault on the fuel pump itself just on instruments and CAN gateway and the car runs spot on.

I think with all the wiring repairs I had to do I might have altered the resistance in one of the CAN lines which is now throwing this fault up.

Unfortunately without knowing what wires to check I'm searching for a neddle in a haystack.

Will try and find a wiring diagram for the CAN lines and have another look.

Thanks

Mike

It is possible that in ineffective can repair may cause concern. However what engine are you running? I'm pretty sure your car has neither a fuel pump control unit or DSP.

I would look at gateway itself. Try recoding it with the same number again and see if the fault codes clear.

It's a simple fuel pump relay on the AVF - there is no fuel pump control unit.

I've seen the same faults on B5 Passats with water ingress problems. If water has made into the dash insert, then there may be more problems to come.

Try recoding the gateway as Tech1e describes above (and keep your fingers crossed).

  • Author

Will give it a go and see what happens, any chance of some instruction on doing this? Or a pointer on where to find this? Bit of a novice with VAGCOM.

I'm hoping its something I've done rather than more water issues mainly due to neither of these faults being present on a scan completed before the repairs started.

I suppose it could be one of the broken wires I found but i would have thought the fault would have shown up before the repair.

Thanks very much for that Tech1e will give it a go the next time my dad is down to visit.
