Magic Octavia Window Problem

Featured Replies

Help!!!!!.. Does anybody know what turns the electric windows off after the ignition is turned off, I have checked all relays, thermal fuses, and the little box that controls the interior lights etc but cannot find the actual device that turns them off.

If I can find out what device does this I may be able to fault find the cause of my problem.

My Octavia VRS18t turns the windows off precisely 10 minutes after I have started the car and driven off? All windows work perfectly, until the magic 10 minutes.

This fault occurs every time I use the car precisely on the 10 minutes. One flick of the ignition switch and the window burst back into life again….but only for the magic 10 minutes. Any help on this would be gratefully received .As this is sending me bonkers.

at a guess i would say the convenience unit (black box under dash with two multi plugs..) although its a guess ;) im sure someone will be along who knows far more about these things?

Have you only just bought the car, or owned it for a while and this problem has just appeared?

If you've only just bought it then the previous owner may have coded the CCU to disable the windows after a certain time limit in the same way you can code it to auto lock the doors after driving off.

Here is a clue that might help you trace the cause: The Convenience Unit disables the windows exactly 10 minutes after turning off the ignition if you don't get out of the car.

I would imagine that it is a connector problem and the CU is not getting an "engine is running" signal.

Possibly faulty ignition switch ?

Still going with a faulty ignition switch. Unless the CCU gets a signal to say the ignition is in the engine running position the windows will stop working after exactly 10 mins, or if the drivers door is opened.

Thanks for reply , I will have a look at the switch and CCU unit, I have run the car without the CCU connected and the fault still persisted, however I have nothing to lose. The Haynes wiring diagram is next to usless and doesent show the CCU unit in line at all??. I will let you know how I get on, once again thanks
