Hi all,

Recently sent car in for a service (car has 118,000 Km on the clock) and was called to say that there was oil in the coolant expansion tank and the most likely cause was oil cooler failure. Replaced and it would now appear that it will take multiple flushes to get the coolant system oil free, thankfully it cant have failed too long before it was spotted as I had dipped oil and checked coolant and all was ok a few days prior to dropping car into garage and maybe put up 500 Km between my visual check and them picking up the problem at the workshop. My question is has this happened to any on here before? is this yet another weak point on the 170 bhp PD engine or am I just unlucky? Is it normal also to have to perform multiple flushing and repeat visits to the workshop to get all the oil contaiminant out of the coolant system?

Hi, had mine done a couple of weeks ago, 170pd BMN too.

I've had a second flush after 2k miles and all is good.

The garage that did the work did say they had done a few.

I have seen other posts on here regarding the same problem so not uncommon I think. Mine went at 70k miles.

Thanks for the reply UglyVRS, looks like its fairly routine so to require an additional flush a few thousand K afterwards.

I have done plenty of them over the years, not just on PD170s though.
