my "door open" indicator has started to flicker. im guessing its an issue with wiring in the door?

is this a common fault?

microswitches in the door are a common fail :-(

Mine flickered a little when I changed the bulbs. One of the terminals had corroded in the connector itself, and was the culprit in my case.

oh right, has anyone done a "how to" guide for Octavia/Golf etc?

Ive started to take the trim off the door but Ive no idea where the dodgy switch might live?

Dodgy switch is in the door lock mechanism itself. There are plenty of guides around...:
