Broken rear seat release catch

Featured Replies

I managed to break the rear seat release catch, so I can't drop the seat down. .

All I did was pull it up in the normal way and it went. I managed to drop the seat by proddling the clasp with a screwdriver. Looking at the mechanism I've found that where the handle connects to the clasp there is a split pin style plastic clip which has come off one side.

Has anyone else done this, and how do you go about fixing it? I can't work out how to remove the old handle. Cheers

Is the car still under warranty, it shouldnt come away under normal use

Unless you're built like Arnie :)

If the car is still under warranty, take it back.

Yep, my Fabia vRS did exactly the same after a few weeks of ownership. I removed the backrest and dropped it off at the dealer who repaired it under warranty. the parts cost them less than a fiver and the job was done perfectly within a day. The design looks crap in my opinion, it's bound to happen again :thumbdwn:

I have the same problem on my Octy 2000. Is there anything I can do to fix it.

I dont want to use the local VAG dealer to fix it as they are rather expensive, they primarily works with VW and they dislike working with Skodas.

I've had the same problem for a couple of months... I havent been able to get the seat to recline... you say you used a screwdriver, what exactly did you do?

also... is this a fix that can be done by me at home?

Not sure how I managed to release the backrest once the lever broke, a lot of jiggling and levering I think..!

The dealer who repaired mine said he had to strip the backrest down. I think the rear cover had to be peeled off to give them access to the release mechanism.
