Octavia drivers side door wont open

Featured Replies

Recently i gave my mate alone of the car and well hes broke the drivers door, i can't open the car from the outside and well i can open it from the inside so it wont open from eithere side, apon closer inspection i've notice the little cable hook that attaches onto the inside drivers door handle is no longer attached as it's loose with no resistance by pulling it, i'am wondering if there anyway of removing the door card without damaging it to reattach it.

the cable needs to be clipped to the inside of the door card, and to the handle, as well as the lock mechanism. I suspect your car lock motor is deadlocked, so you need to wind window down, remove tweeter cover (pull off carefully) then take of switch panel, prise it up carefully and disconnect, then undo the screws (3) inside the cover holding the door handle on the card to the door. They pull the mirror adjuster off, and take out the screw underneath, finally you will need to pull the door card away and up (so the slot that sits over the window aperture) comes up and away, then the card should come away, its fiddly, and you then need to remove the cable attaching the loom to the lower puddle light, once done you can access the inside of the door.

If the mechanism is broken and the car is deadlocked, you will need to break the mechanism out some how, i use man power here. Then once the door is open, you can remove to 2 plastic caps, and back out the bolts that hold the door lock itself, and remove the lock barrel, then undo the the little grooved plastic piece that has a wire attached (the pull part going) to your motor (and attached to your door handle), then you have 2 bolts on the inside of the door edge, that hold the motor in place, then once removed you need to man handle the motor out, and disconnect from the loom, throw the fecker away, or follw a repair guide in the tech section in here. IMO replace, they are cak, and go all the time. Infact i did one last week and have another one to do this week!!!

phew!

Ps if you break the clips that hold the card, you can get them from skoda, they arent expensive, and they are the weakest link, meaning its better that they break than the card itself.

Thanks Oet, i dont think the door is deadlocked but i can lock and unlock the door but just can't open it, i was thinking about ripping the door card off but cause it's a vrs one i have i've not bothered, i've had the door card off a few times sorting out the window regulator, but thanks for the tips

no probs! well if it doesnt open, you need the card off anyway, follow what i said (without removing the handle part on the outside or the motor yet) then get the cable end off your door card, and hold the sleeve then pull it. It should open. Is the sleeve holder in the door card itself (on the backside by the handle) damaged, the door i did last week had a damaged mount for the cable sleeve so there was no resistance for the cable end/door handle when pulled.
