Which would you choose?

Featured Replies

2008 Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 TDI PD or 2010 Skoda Octavia 4x4 1.9 TDI - similar miles (30,000), similar price.

No need of off road capability, just want a nice estate with 4x4 for winter lanes.

Any thoughts please?

I own a Scout, I love our Scout and I would very much like another Scout.

However they are now over priced. I paid £14K for my 12 month old 8,000 mile, ex Skoda UK Scout 3 years ago. For the same car today I'd need £18K.

If I were you I'd save myself more than £5,000 and buy a used Seat Altea Freetrack 4 instead.

Same chassis and Haldex system as the Scout/4x4 Octavia, but fully loaded and it gets the PD170 engine from the vRS.

All for a third less than the Octavia.

The looks are Marmite but I don't mind it to be honest, and they are very, very rare...

Why pick the scout if you have no need of off road capabilities?

The higher stance will use more fuel and roll round the corners more than the 'std' 4x4 estate.

The Scouts extra height over the 4x4 is down to the 17" alloys and higher profile tyres so it won't roll more than the standard 4x4 on its suspension.

Our Scout never goes off road.

I bought it for my wife as she liked the extra ride height but didn't want a traditional 4x4.

It also looks much better (in my opinion) than the rest of the Octavia range. I very much like the chunky looks, aluminium look bumpers, Proteus alloys and the protection offered to the sills due to the plastic cladding. It's also very well specced as standard.

I like to know that my wife can get about in the snow during the winter months.

Also the spec on a standard Scout is significantly better than a standard 4x4 Octy. If it were me I'd go for the Scout, but then I'm a bit biased :)

Scout.

I would have chosen one over my VRS but they are far more expensive. The 4x4 feature was a bonus in my mind and would certainly help in winter. The things i liked most though about the scout was the ride quality, the rugged looks and having a car higher off the ground makes it a lot easier to get in and out which makes a difference when yoyur my height with a dodgy back.

I will be waiting patiently for the new scout when its announced.

I would imagine the scout will have better resale values due to its desirability so will loose less money than the basic 4x4.

Scout. Definately scout.

I have a 4x4 and it is a great car, like already stated though the speck is bait basic. 4 wheel drive is all very good but 2 years ago had a bad slide on some compact snow. My father in law has a 5 series with winter tyres and I drove that for a week and handled better than my octavia. Lets just say I got some winter tyres on last year. From my experience a good speck 2 wheel drive with winter tyres during our normal winters would be better than a 4 wheel with standard tyres.

Scout!

If I could find one in the right spec at the right price I'd have one tomorrow

scout.

looks great and i would expect it'd hold its value better.

If you're getting some warranty get the scout.

Timing belt will be due on it if it's not been done (4yr).

Keep it a few years and sell it on in winter, you'll probably lose very little on it.
