Should I sell my Superb?

Hey peeps. The other half has just got a teaching job and I will be earning twice as much by January hopefully..... If things go to plan.

So we're going to treat ourselves.

Although I'm not sure I want to!

I LOVE my superb, it may be 10 years old, but it hasn't dated it looks great. It has all the creature comforts, climate, cruise, heated electric leather, auto dim mirror, xenon, auto wipers.....

Not to mention the engine! The 1.9 is perfection! I've driven many new diesels and there's no comparison. This is the best diesel I've come across.

Would it be worth a new Superb, the MK2 are the diesels any good?

DPF in modern cars puts me off too.

if its running fine, then keep it and put the new money towards savings, something for the house, nice holiday etc. Just because you have more income does not mean you need to have a better car.

If your not sure you want to sell then dont, better the devil you know :thumbup:

unless you can afford to lose 2-3 grand a year for the next 3 years stick with your old superb.

Whatever you decide, a used MK2 is pretty cheap nowadays and having the DPF removed, should make you very happy and extend the life of your car by many many miles. :-)

I used to test diesel engines for a living. The AWX (and slightly less so, the AVF) PD engines are the best diesel engines of their size produced by anyone in terms of sheer efficiency and useful output - I have one. The later CR engines are quieter and produce a smoother torque delivery but their efficiency is not as good, partly because additional fuel is needed to burn the soot out of the DPF. This fuel does no useful work. The fuel system of the CR is also less tolerant of poor fuel lubricity than is the oil-lubricated PD. The DPF fitted to CR engines will require expensive maintenance at a point when the vehicle is worth very little - ultimately negating any diesel efficiency savings.

Cars are a lousy investment - if you like the Mk 1 Superb and you have a manual AWX, I would recommend that you look after it and keep it, but be aware of its design faults and keep on top of its weaknesses. This is my plan and so far, it works. A well maintained PD diesel B5.5 will run to starship mileages if you get it right.

Although the way you spend your own money is none of my business, if your salary increases I would invest in your kids' education or possibly property and forget about buying cars.

I do maintain it and I've followed all the advice to stop the weaknesses coming through.

It is a lovely car!

I think the result a resounding no on selling for a new one.
