Painted bumpers

Featured Replies

My Yeti hasn't arrived yet. The Dealer sent me an Email to advise it was being build last week and told my another 15 weeks to delivery.

In the mean time I have found this:

And I like the look of it. The problem is I looked at the Yeti at the Sydney Motor Show yesterday and noticed the bumper plastic has a rough texture to it. So the question is how did they paint like this. Either hours of sanding the texture off or painted with putty first?

Hey Joel, I've been following your trials and tribulations with salemen and ordering.

I think the only reason that particular Yeti looks Ok is because of the very large wheels and the fact it has been lowered. Not sure it would work too well without those, and since you ordered the off road tech, it would seem to be counterproductive.

Can I ask what info your dealer provided to you when you ordered. I paid a deposit two weeks ago, and when I emailed him yesterday he said early March, maybe.

Really, couldn't have been more vague. No order #, build date, or anything else. I have very similar options to yours on a 118tsi manual. (off road tech, xenons, park assist, stereo upgrade, matterhorn wheels)

The dealer didn't provide much mate. I just asked because it had been a bit over 1 month since I ordered. 15 weeks puts it about 28 January and he is telling me Jan/Feb.

Yeh your right about the the look suiting lowered and bigger wheels. I'm going to do some rough photo chopping to see what it looks like on standard one.

I won't be going too far off road with the Yeti. I'm considering selling my WRX and buying a Series 2 Land Rover Dicso if I get a transfer to Darwin. I love tech in cars and the "off road tech" was just some thing I wanted. I'll use it but I'll be gentle. Even if I dont get the bumper painted, I dont plan on dragging them up dirt banks or anything like that.

Where did you order from?

Happy Days.

How much were the matterhorn wheels? If you dont mind me asking.

I was quoted $1700 for the Annapurna wheels becaue there is no option in the dealer codes. Ther have to order them from spare parts which means I end up with 8 wheels. I had a winge at the Skoda stand at the motor show yesterday. They said someone will call me so they can improve customer service. I believe that when it happens though.

Since they are the same size as the standard wheels, just a different design. It should only cost for the administration to chane the build. WTF

Happy Days.

Ordered from Wippells Toowoomba (Qld). Not local or that convenient, but the most helpful and didn't play any games while negotiating.

The matterhorns were $445 (as part of "reef pack", which also has a chrome strip in the door side protection).

Did you get diesel or petrol?

If you do want to paint the rear bumper it's just a case of sanding off all the lumps with fine sanding paper so you don't leave any scratches in it, which course paper will do.

Diesel, "COPPERHEAD".

Does that take a long time? "BOSSFOX"

It depends how fast you are at rubbing. ;)

It's not that difficult, just a bit time consuming. An hour or two I believe with decent fine sandpaper.
