mot advisory

Featured Replies

my vrs passed its mot yesterday yey!!!! but i got a few advisories so i have some questions on how to get them fixed

1 offside park brake just met the required efficiency ( can this be adjusted )

2 play in inner steering rack joints ( can i repair or replace these )

any help would be appreciated

cheers

1) - I know the general handbrake setup can be adjusted just behind the handbrake lever, under the trim, but not sure about one specific one?

2) - Not the easiest, but yes, it is possible to replace these. From memory on mine, you have to drop the subframe for access, not sure on octy 1. Best done on a 2 post lift.

i replaced the inner steering rack joints on my mk1 tdi a while ago. the hardest part is removing the steel band which holds the gaiter onto the rack. No need to drop the subframe. If you need any help, give me a pm, and i can talk you through the procedure. My replacements were brand new items from a popular online auction site and were about £19 per side if i remember correctly. Once fitted though, you absolutely MUST have your front wheel alignment checked at a reputable tyre fitting place. Brakes should be a straight forward fix, provided the calipers internals have not siezed.
